Best Vintage Platform Shoe Collection -
Poppet

"After dating someone for a few months you realize he's either too weird or
too small," exclaimed a young woman sitting in one of the lounge chairs in
Poppet, a cozy vintage shop off First Avenue. Two other women giggled and I
couldn't help cracking a smile myself. Every time I pop into this East Village
boutique I feel as if I have stumbled into a 1960s mod tea party complete with
girly girls, giggles, and perhaps most distracting, an assortment of platform
shoes that I think should be in a museum. The owners of this jewel-box
boutique, previously called Psyche's Tears, scour the planet for the best and
quirky in wedge design—from the backyards of Ohio to the streets of
London, from well-known labels to obscure brands, from cork to Cherokee,
this retro retreat's darling varieties will have you resembling a model from a
vintage Vogue photo spread in no time. Or, at the very least, you'll be
elevated to equal height. (Jessie Pascoe)
